Group 1: Fully Compliant Models
You may open/close the door on Shabbos & YomTov, and can adjust the temperature on YomTov:
(Remember, even in the Sabbath mode, one is never permitted to adjust the temperature on the Sabbath.)
Group 2:
On YomTov, you can raise the temperature but after doing so you must wait 30 minutes before opening the door. Opening the oven door within that 30 minute time span will deactivate a fan. This is not a problem when lowering the temperature.(Remember, even in the Sabbath mode, one is never permitted to adjust the temperature on the Sabbath.)
Please note that the character in the _ position indicates the color, S=stainless, W=white, B=black
* Only upper oven has the Sabbath mode. Lower oven is mechanical and does not have Sabbath mode capability.
** No temperature change capability in Sabbath mode for lower oven.
*** Only lower (non-microwave) oven has Sabbath mode capability.
****Please note that this model is only available from Home Depot.

Please be aware that there are restrictions in the use of ovens and stoves on the Sabbath and Holidays. If you are unfamiliar with the laws of keeping food warm on the Sabbath or cooking on the Holidays, please call your Rabbi. Please note that when the Holiday and Sabbath coincide, the Sabbath laws prevail. See your owner's manual for instructions on operating the Sabbath mode. Before first use of a new oven be sure to wash the racks and interior of the oven thoroughly with warm water and soap to remove any coating oil.
COOKTOPS:
- On the Sabbath, a gas flame or electric heat may not be initiated, adjusted or turned off.
- On the Sabbath, a "blech" should be used to cover the flame in addition to covering the controls of the cooktop. For the gas burners and coiled electric burners use a standard "blech". The manufacturer does not recommend putting a "blech" on the glass electric cooktop surface. Instead, just the controls should be covered.
- On Yom Tov, a gas flame or electric heat may not be initiated or turned completely off. For gas cooktops, raise and lower the temperature as required for cooking. For electric cooktops, raising the temperature is not permitted because there is no indication when power is on to the heating elements. Lowering the temperature is permitted when necessary for food preparation.
- During a power failure, gas cooktops will remain on, whereas electric cooktops will recover to the set temperature when the power returns.
- The glass electric cooktops cannot be kashered for Passover. For the rest of the year, be sure to wipe the cooking surface clean between meat and dairy use.
OVENS:
- If opening the oven door turns on an oven light, the bulb should either be removed before the Sabbath or Holiday or the light should be turned on at the control panel and left on for the entire Sabbath or Holiday.
- The oven temperature may not be initiated, adjusted or turned off on the Sabbath.
- On the Sabbath, in lieu of a "blech", the oven controls should be covered. (Be careful not to cover vent openings.)
- All food should be placed in the oven before the Sabbath begins, since none may be placed in the oven during the Sabbath.
- On the Sabbath, the oven door may only be opened once, all the food removed and then closed. On the Holidays, the oven door may be opened/closed at any time as often as desired.
- On the holidays, the temperature may be adjusted (but not initiated or turned off) at any time following the instructions in the owner's manual (because there is a delay between the request and implementation). Some models have timed bake in the Sabbath mode. (Only models that have timed bake in the regular mode will have timed bake in the Sabbath mode.) This feature can only be initiated before the Sabbath/Holiday. Once timed bake goes off, the oven cannot be used again for that Sabbath/Holiday.
Consumers should be aware that when raising or lowering the oven temperature on the Holidays in the Sabbath mode, no numbers are displayed. Therefore, it is considerably easier to do so with the knob or keypad where one can turn to or press specific numbers, as opposed to the slew control where one is pressing an up/down arrow to obtain the desired temperature.
There are two types of keypad number pads: Membrane and Glass Touch. The surface of the Membrane number pad depresses somewhat when pressed (which the customer can sense) and in the process registers the input. The surface of the Glass Touch number pads is solid and will not depress when pushed. To make sure the command is registered for the Glass Touch, ensure that the entire pad of your finger is squarely over the number for two seconds. Make sure not to overlap another pad while touching the desired pad - be especially careful around the CANCEL key so that SABBATH mode is not exited. Due to a lack of visual and audio feedback in SABBATH, a Membrane Control Panel may be preferable. This is due to "feeling" the key depression.
- After recovery from a power failure, all these ovens will stay off.
Note for Double Ovens: Double ovens that are Sabbath mode capable in both the upper and lower ovens can only be used in the Sabbath mode one at a time.
WARMING DRAWERS:
Note: Some models of the warming drawers will automatically shut off after 3 hours, while others will remain on indefinitely. Contact GE to determine the specifics of your model. Please be aware that the warming drawer can only be used when the oven is not in Sabbath mode.
- The drawer temperature may not be initiated, adjusted or turned off on the Sabbath.
- On the Sabbath, in lieu of a "blech", the drawer controls should be covered. (Be careful not to cover vent openings.)
- Food should be placed in the warming drawer before the Sabbath begins, as in a regular oven, since none may be placed in the drawer during the Sabbath.
- On the Sabbath, the drawer may only be opened once, all the food removed and then closed. When the timer is used, the drawer may be opened/closed at will once the timer shuts off. On the Holidays, the drawer may be opened/closed at any time as often as desired.
- On the Holidays, raising the temperature is not permitted because there is no indication when power is on to the heating elements. Lowering the temperature is permitted when necessary for food preparation.
- The timer can only be initiated before the Sabbath/Holiday. Once the timer goes off, the drawer cannot be used again for that Sabbath/Holiday.
- If the power fails when the warming drawer is ON, when the power returns, the drawer will return to its previous ON setting.
