Dishwashers may not be used on Shabbos and Yom Tov.<\/strong> <strong>The recommendations provided below are meant only as guidelines for consumers who wish to purchase a dishwasher that can be opened and loaded on Shabbos and Yom Tov without a worry that doing so will violate any aspects of <em>shmiras Shabbos<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Some dishwasher manufacturers include a \u201cSabbath Mode\u201d or \u201cKosher Consumer-Friendly Mode\u201d in their devices. While this mode does not allow the device to be used on Shabbos or Yom Tov, it will disable other controls and allow it to be opened and loaded on Shabbos and Yom Tov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Opening the Dishwasher Door <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Should not activate any tones or digital readouts (e.g., \u2018door ajar\u2019 icons, settings).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should not trigger an interior light.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should not trigger a change in door icons. (e.g., Some dishwashers display the word <em>Clean<\/em> at the end of a cycle. Opening the door to unload dishes may cancel the display.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Smart Technology<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are using an app on your smartphone to control your appliance, it is recommended that you disconnect from the app or at a minimum turn off your smartphone before Shabbos\/Yom Tov to preclude any communication between the appliance and the phone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Remodeling Recommendation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When remodeling a kitchen with a new dishwasher, it is advisable to install a separate kill switch to let you cut power to the appliance at will. Turning the switch off before Shabbos or Yom Tov allows you to open and close the dishwasher without triggering any lights or icons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Double Drawer Dishwashers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>May be designated as one for dairy use and one for meat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should not be run simultaneously, in the event there is a malfunction and one backs up into the other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong>STAR-K does not certify dishwashers.
